Each year, thousands of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) fail to receive critical reperfusion therapy for their infarct artery in a timely fashion. Even worse, nearly 30 percent of patients with STEMI do not receive any reperfusion treatment. The Illinois Chapter the American College of Cardiology (IL-ACC) in it’s continued efforts to ensure leadership for quality healthcare in Illinois is partnering with American Heart Association’s Mission (AHA): Lifeline Initiative to address this problem. This initiative’s goal is to advance systems of care for STEMI patients and seeks to reduce mortality, morbidity, and improve the overall quality of care for STEMI patients. The IL-ACC and AHA are co-sponsoring the Mission Lifeline; Illinois Advances in STEMI Systems of Care Program on May 29, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare from 6:30-8:30 pm. This program will feature an overview of STEMI systems by Dr. Paul Jones of Mercy Medical Center and hospital perspectives from around the state. A panel representing Carle Clinic in Champaign, Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, and Rush University Hospital in Chicago will be fielding questions from attendees.
Join the IL-ACC, AHA, and other Mission Lifeline Partners for an informative dinner and learn how you will have the chance to advance STEMI Systems in your community!
Registration is free, but RSVPs are required to attend. To discover more information about Mission lifeline and to register for the program on May 29 click here or go to the IL-ACC or Mission Lifeline website.
In addition to this program, the IL-ACC is pleased to announce the formation of the IL-ACC STEMI Taskforce. The task force is comprised any Illinois ACC members serving as cardiovascular champion in each emergency medical system (EMS) region and chaired by Dr. Jerome Hines, Governor, IL-ACC. The IL-ACC task force members are:
